The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, stated that when the price of gas, which is currently valid for Armenia and Belarus, was two to three times lower than the market price, it was perceived that it should be so.
“And no one said it was politics. Everyone said that this is what happens to us,” Lavrov said, answering Armenian journalist Hayk Khalatyan’s question during an online round table held at the Gorchakov Foundation.
He noted that he sees logic in raising the issue of gas price revision, “but in that case, you have to be logical to the end.”
“I think that the Allies, of course, should get economic advantages. But when the price has reached where it is now, there are certain contractual obligations. I am sure that during the consideration of applications, and they were recently received from both Belarusian and Armenian partners, our alliance relations are taken into account, of course. But it seems that it is wrong to remember about it only when the situation becomes diametrically opposite to the situation that existed three or four years ago,” said the Russian Foreign Minister.
He mentioned that if we are talking about Armenia, one of the problems that have not been solved for several years is the internal tariffs in Armenia, which are such that it complicates the application of the most preferable approaches in the matter of pricing.
“If we talk about allied relations, then they should be demonstrated in all areas. “If we talk about the economy, we have great hope that the legal proceedings started in Armenia over the last two years against joint ventures, including the South Caucasian Railway, will be settled without mixing things that are incompatible with alliance relations,” he said.
“And I speak about this very frankly, because several difficult situations have developed in which Russian companies have found themselves. I hope that we will settle all these issues on terms of mutual respect,” Lavrov said.
According to him, a telephone conversation between Putin and Pashinyan took place recently, “they see the development of alliance and strategic partnership, and I assure you that all issues on both sides will be resolved in this direction.”
