The survey carried out by Campo Grande News proved that for 89% of readers, there is no intention of stockpiling food due to the crisis caused by the floods in Rio Grande do Sul.

The concern arose after some supermarkets in the Capital posted a notice on the rice shelves, limiting customer purchases to five units of the food. With the announcement, many people began to worry about a possible shortage of products in the city.

In a note, Amas (Associação Sul-Mato Grosso de Supermercados) reported that due to the supply of products coming to the State of Rio Grande do Sul “there is a serious logistics problem, and consequently, suppliers are unable to deliver them , despite there being stock”.

When contacted by the report, the association responded, through the press office, that there is no indication of a lack of other products and that in this case the issue is one of logistics. “This is the case with rice, where some supermarkets are already limiting the quantity sold per customer, due to fear of running out of product”, adds the association.

Farsul (Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of Rio Grande do Sul) reported on Thursday (9) that “the rice that is already harvested guarantees the country’s supply” and that at this moment the greatest difficulty is transporting the grain to other locations . “Obviously, due to lack of logistics, we may have a shortage in the very short term, but nothing more than that”, he added.

Rio Grande do Sul harvested 84.2% of its planted area, according to data from Irga (Instituto Rio Grandense do Arroz), released on Wednesday (8), which corresponds to 6.4 million tons of rice.

The state of Rio Grande do Sul has been suffering from floods since last week and has already recorded more than 100 deaths and around 130 missing people.
