According to Mohapatra, heat wave is likely to last for two to eight days in these areas compared to the usual one to three days.

What are the preparations of the government?

An advisory regarding heat wave was issued by the Health Ministry to all the states on 29 February. The action plan prepared by the National Center for Disease Control for the states and information on dos and don’ts for the general public were also shared. According to Union Health Minister Mandaviya, state health departments have been asked to do rapid analysis of possible cases of heat wave and standard treatment protocols. Under this, it has been asked to ensure training of doctors as well as availability of drinking water and other facilities in all health centres. Departments have also been urged to ensure that ambulances are equipped with ice packs and cold water for prompt response. 23 states have prepared action plans to deal with the heat wave.
