Six-Year-Old Boy Found Dead in Jakarta After Eight-Month Search; Suspect in Custody

A tragic end has come to the eight-month search for six-year-old Alvaro Kiano Nugroho, who was found deceased in Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta, authorities confirmed on Sunday, November 23, 2025. The discovery follows an extensive investigation and the recent arrest of a suspect connected to the case, according to police officials.

Did you know?-Indonesia’s child protection laws mandate a maximum three-year sentence for kidnapping, a point of contention among advocates given the severity of such crimes.

The Disappearance and Initial Search Efforts

The case captivated the nation after Alvaro was reported missing on March 6, 2025. His mother, Arumi, explained that Alvaro routinely attended a local mosque for evening prayers during Ramadan. However,on the day of his disappearance,he vanished after leaving home in the afternoon and failed to return.

“From after sunset he didn’t go home,” Arumi recounted to detikcom on April 17, 2025. “At 7, 8 o’clock he looked for nothing. Until 10 o’clock, he wasn’t there.” Arumi immediately began searching for her son, reviewing CCTV footage and questioning friends at the mosque, but to no avail. Investigators quickly surmised a possible abduction, as friends confirmed Alvaro had not been seen at the mosque that evening.

Pro tip:-When a child goes missing, immediately secure any potential evidence like clothing or personal items for scent tracking by canine units.

Police Investigation and Public Appeals

Following the initial search, Arumi reported her son’s disappearance to the police, who launched a full-scale investigation. “Yesterday we also received a call from Polda Metro Jaya, we are helping to find the word,” Arumi stated, indicating collaboration between local and regional law enforcement.

The family supplemented the police efforts with a widespread public campaign, distributing posters throughout Jakarta and leveraging social media to broaden the search. Despite these efforts, Alvaro remained missing. Arumi emphasized that the family received no credible ransom demands, but were rather plagued by numerous scams.

“There are no kidnappers who ask for money properly,” she explained. “In fact, there are many who cheat, saying that my child is here, here…we come, there’s nothing.”

Expanding the Scope of the Investigation

The police investigation extended to Alvaro’s extended family, including those of his separated father. “The police are also investigating every family, the closest family,” arumi confirmed. “They have and they are not with them, it has been confirmed…they are also looking for them.”

Arumi also stated that her family enjoyed positive relationships with their neighbors, eliminating that avenue of inquiry. As the search continued without success,Arumi expressed growing despair. “Now I’m at the point of giving up, I don’t know what to do anymore,” she admitted.

The breakthrough in the case came with the recent arrest of a suspect. Pesanggrahan Police Chief AKP Seala Syah Alam confirmed the arrest to journalists on Sunday, November 23, 2025, stating simply, “Alvaro has been found dead.”
