Tasmania Police said the driver initially refused to stop at a breath-testing station on the Bass Highway near Round Hill in Burnie at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Thursday, December 25.
Officers attempted to intercept the 1997 white Holden Commodore station wagon, but the driver evaded them, according to police. Shortly before 10:30 p.m., the vehicle struck a pedestrian at the intersection of Beattie and Payne Streets.
The driver immediately fled the scene following the collision, police stated. Officers provided first aid to the pedestrian before they were transported to the North West Regional Hospital with injuries that were not considered serious.
A 23-year-old man from Newnham is currently in custody and assisting police with their investigation. Police located the station wagon in Burnie on Friday morning.
