Madrid Launches Free Training Programs for Dementia & Elder Care Professionals and Families

A comprehensive suite of free online training programs designed to bolster support for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative conditions, along with their caregivers, has been announced by the Community of Madrid. The initiative aims to equip both family members and professional care providers with the latest knowledge and skills in long-term care for the elderly.
The programs, part of the “School of long-term care for the elderly in the Community of Madrid,” address a critical need for enhanced understanding and effective strategies in a rapidly aging population.According to a senior official, the initiative focuses on “psychosocial intervention, the guarantee of rights, the prevention of dependency and the promotion of the autonomy of elderly people in a situation of dependency.”
Workshops and Courses for Caregivers and Professionals
A dedicated workshop, “Managing arduous behaviors in dementia,” is scheduled for November 5 and is specifically tailored for family members and informal caregivers. this training will provide practical tools and techniques for navigating the challenges associated with dementia care.
For professionals working in centers for the elderly, a series of three courses will be offered throughout November:
- “psychological techniques applied to daily life” – November 12
- “Aging, technology and its applications in AICP code” – November 18
- “Good treatment in the care of the elderly” – November 27
These courses aim to enhance the quality of care provided in residential settings, focusing on both psychological well-being and the integration of technological advancements.

along with the workshops and courses, a series of online conferences will be available to a broader audience, including family members, non-formal caregivers, and professionals. These conferences will explore cutting-edge approaches to elder care:
- “The Montessori method in older adults and people with dementia“
- “Understanding the brain: Why we think, feel and act“
- “New model of care and support in the community“
These conferences represent a commitment to disseminating the latest research and best practices in the field of neurodegenerative diseases.
