According to Holden, relatives of the man contacted police after becoming concerned about his plans to liquidate his assets. “They wanted to stop their uncle from putting his house on the market as he believed that the proceeds of the sale were then going to come to me and we were going to live together,” Holden explained. “Obviously this was never going to happen. The first I heard about it all was from the police. the scammers were going to pocket all his money.”
Holden described the situation as “shocking” and stated she “felt personally responsible for his wellbeing so tried to help the police in every way I could.” Fortunately, the man realized the deception before completing the sale. “He realised that ther was no relationship with me directly,” holden said. The experience underscored the pervasive nature of online fraud and motivated her to participate in the BBC’s Scam Interceptors.

Rather than simply investigating after a crime has occurred, Scam Interceptors utilizes the same remote access technology employed by fraudsters to “hack the hackers,” monitoring their operations in real-time and intervening before victims are harmed.
Holden had a direct encounter with one of the individuals impersonating her online, dubbed “Scamanda.” “I got to meet ‘Scamanda’, one of the scammers pretending to be me, and gave them what for,” she stated, adding, “I can’t stand injustice.” She emphasized her long-held passion for advocating for others, making this project a natural fit. “My family and friends say I’m always ready to fight a cause or someone’s corner,” Holden noted.
The experience also opened her eyes to the speed with which scammers can steal funds. “It was mind blowing seeing how quickly money can be stolen from people’s accounts,” she said. “I just wanted to stop them or scream at the individuals that they were being scammed. I realised that every minute counts and every small win is a big win.”

Holden offered clear and concise advice to the public,urging caution when interacting with unknown callers. “Never answer the phone to a number you do not recognize or to withheld numbers,” she warned. “Never, ever give out bank details, pin numbers or transfer money is what I say. Hang up and call into your local bank branch or call their official number on the back of your bank card.”
Celebrity Scam Interceptors is scheduled to air on BBC One and iPlayer beginning at 2pm on Monday. Holden concluded with a direct warning to potential scammers: “Scammers, consider this your warning – Amanda’s watching.”
