Amanda Serrano Volunteers to Replace Injured Kayla Harrison, Faces Amanda Nunes at UFC 324
A potential blockbuster matchup at UFC 324 is in jeopardy following an injury to Kayla Harrison, but multi-weight champion Amanda Serrano has stepped forward, offering to fill the void and challenge two-division UFC champion Amanda Nunes for the bantamweight title. The fight, originally scheduled for January 24 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, was slated to co-headline the UFC’s debut event on the Paramount+ streaming platform.
Harrison’s injury throws the highly anticipated bout with Nunes into uncertainty, prompting the UFC to seek a replacement. Serrano, a decorated boxer with a record of 48-4-1, quickly volunteered, expressing her readiness for the challenge.
“If UFC and Amanda Nunes are thinking of a replacement, I would love the challenge as I’m still in fight shape. Hope the champ recovers well,” Serrano posted on X (formerly Twitter) on January 15, 2026.
She further emphasized her experience in combat sports, stating, “I’ve competed in both MMA & Jiu-Jitsu – anyone that has ever done MMA/BJJ has always dreamt of competing in the biggest stages & company UFC.” Serrano also revealed she maintains her striking skills through regular training with her nephew, a varsity wrestling captain.
The potential fight between Nunes (23-5, 13 KOs, 4 submissions) and Serrano has generated excitement among fans, who envision a thrilling clash of power and technique. According to observers, Nunes’s striking prowess combined with Serrano’s willingness to engage in a stand-up battle could make for a captivating contest.
While primarily known for her boxing achievements – holding titles in Ring magazine, the WBO, and the WBA featherweight divisions – Serrano is not a stranger to mixed martial arts. She boasts an undefeated MMA record of 2-0-1, with both victories secured by submission. Her last foray into the octagon was in 2021, and she also has a background in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Serrano’s most recent fight took place on January 3rd, where she defeated Reina Tellez by decision in a bout promoted by Jake Paul’s MVP Promotions. Notably, this fight was contested over ten three-minute rounds, a longer format than typically seen in women’s boxing, which usually features two-minute rounds. Tellez was a late replacement for the original opponent.
Harrison’s injury is expected to delay the fight with Nunes by approximately six weeks. The UFC has yet to officially respond to Serrano’s offer, but the prospect of this unexpected matchup is quickly gaining momentum within the combat sports community.
