/ The US State Department imposed travel restrictions on its employees in Israel in the wake of public threats against Israel by Iran, after the bombing of the Iranian consulate in Syria and the killing of 7 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

The US embassy said in a security warning: “Out of an abundance of caution, US government employees and their family members are prohibited from traveling outside the greater Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Beersheba areas until further notice.”

“The security environment remains complex and could change rapidly depending on the political situation and recent events,” the warning noted.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said he “would not talk about the specific assessments that led us to restrict personal travel for our employees and family members, but it is clear that we are monitoring threats in the Middle East and specifically in Israel.”

Miller added: “We have seen Iran make public threats against Israel in the past few days, and Israel is in a very difficult neighborhood and we are monitoring the security situation. You have seen us adapt a little to the travel warnings at the beginning of this conflict and we are making continuous assessments all the time about the situation.”
