World champion in the 50m breaststroke in 2022, Nic Fink was crowned in the 10m breaststroke this Monday, ahead of the Italian Nicolo Martinenghi and the Briton Adam Peaty.

The American Nic Fink became world champion in the 100m breaststroke on Monday at the World Championships in Doha, where the British Adam Peaty, back on the international scene after a long absence, took the bronze medal. In silver last year, Fink won in 58 sec 57, ahead of Italian Nicolo Martinenghi, world champion in 2022 (58 sec 84).

Adam Peaty completed the podium by finishing 3rd (59 sec 10). The 29-year-old Briton, double Olympic distance champion and world record holder, had not appeared at the Worlds since 2019 in Gwangju.

In his absence, the Chinese Qin Haiyang emerged on the global scene by achieving the breaststroke hat-trick (50, 100, 200 m) last year at the Fukuoka World Championships in Japan. But the 24-year-old swimmer did not make the trip to Qatar and therefore handed over his title to Fink less than six months before the Paris Games.
