Former Prime Minister Aminata Touré Acquitted of Defamation
Former Prime Minister Aminata Touré, accused of defamation by the former infrastructure minister and mayor of Saint-Louis, was acquitted by the Dakar Criminal Court on Friday. The court found her not guilty due to her good behavior. Meanwhile, Mansour Faye, her brother-in-law and former president Macky Sall’s relative, was ordered to pay costs.
“The defamation complaint against me by Mansour Faye was dismissed by the Dakar court,” Aminata Touré declared, reacting to the verdict. However, Mansour Faye’s lawyer, Me Ousmane Thiam, interprets the decision differently.
“The decision states that the comments made by Aminata Touré were defamatory and not true,” Thiam said, citing the court’s findings. “The court concluded that she intentionally lied and the evidence she provided was rejected.”
This acquittal comes after the judge in the case agreed with Mansour Faye’s claims, leading Aminata Touré to make an important announcement.
