Ammar Zoni, a prominent Indonesian actor, is facing serious allegations of involvement in a drug distribution network operating from within the Salemba Detention Center in Central Jakarta. This case raises concerns about a pattern of behavior and the potential for illicit activity within the correctional system.
The Central Jakarta District prosecutor’s Office confirmed the allegations through an official statement posted on their Instagram account on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. According to the prosecutor’s office, investigators from the Cempaka Putih Police have transferred case files and evidence – known as phase II – related to the investigation.
“The suspect MAA alias AZ is involved in the distribution of narcotics from within the Salemba Detention Center,Central Jakarta, and the suspects have been arrested by KARUPAM Salemba Detention Center with evidence of narcotics such as crystal methamphetamine and synthetic marijuana (synte),” the prosecutor’s office stated,as quoted on Thursday,October 9,2025. The statement also noted Zoni’s prior convictions in similar cases.
zoni is now charged under Article 114 Paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 Paragraph (1), and Article 112 Paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics. If convicted, he could face a minimum prison sentence of six years and a maximum of life imprisonment, along with a fine of up to IDR 10 billion.
Economic Hardship Cited as Potential Factor
The circumstances leading to Zoni’s alleged involvement in the drug network have sparked speculation, with friends suggesting financial difficulties played a role. christopher, a close friend of the actor, revealed that Zoni had been forced to sell personal assets to cope with economic pressures.
“Sayq doesn’t know [lack of money], what is clear is that his Instagram has been sold, I will help him,” Christopher stated during an interview in the Pagedangan area of Tangerang Regency on Friday, October 10, 2025. He further explained that Zoni’s personal Instagram account had been sold to generate income.
Christopher also disclosed that he had sold two of Zoni’s cars for a combined value exceeding IDR 500 million, transferring the proceeds to the actor’s family. “I was also confused. I had handed over the money to my family,to Aditya Zoni at that time. What I was confused about was that the money should be used to live on,so that the provisions would come out later so that I could have a handle on being able to earn a living in the entertainment world,” he added.
Attempts to Support Zoni’s Rehabilitation
Christopher revealed he had been actively trying to help zoni rebuild his financial stability following his release from a previous drug-related case in 2023, hoping to facilitate a return to his entertainment career. However, the latest allegations have left him deeply disappointed.
“I’ve helped as much as I can, so that later he will have something to hold on to. But how come it’s like this again,” he said.
A History of Legal Troubles
this latest case adds to a concerning pattern of legal issues for zoni, who was previously arrested in 2017, 2023, and 2024 on narcotics abuse charges. The current allegations, involving drug trafficking from within a correctional facility, carry the potential for a considerably harsher sentence due to the aggravating circumstances.
As of now, neither the Prosecutor’s Office nor Ammar Zoni’s legal counsel have released detailed statements regarding the actor’s specific role in the alleged drug trafficking operation. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the case progresses.
