The Republic of Armenia is not cut off from the world, we are not in a cave and we are interconnected with a number of global developments, RA Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Narek Mkrtchyan said in the parliament, citing global developments as the reason for the inflation recorded in Armenia.
According to him, inflationary pressures are not caused only by internal events in Armenia.
“A number of countries, including very prosperous ones, starting with the USA, are experiencing these inflationary pressures,” Mkrtchyan noted and added that Armenia is in a better condition compared to other countries.
“Among EAEU member countries, we are one of the countries with the lowest inflation,” the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs announced.
According to him, the government is thinking about increasing social payments, pensions, and wages, but “every new policy that will lead to an increase in social payments should be based on the country’s financial and macroeconomic indicators.”
“The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs does not have a direct instrument to suppress inflation,” the minister said, adding that such a new policy requires discussions with the RA ministries of finance and economy.
