The first name that came to Messi’s mind as soon as he was asked about his successor was Real Madrid star and Brazilian talent Vinicius Junior, and Messi chose Norwegian Erling Haaland, Manchester City striker.
Haaland has a terrifying scoring record since arriving at Manchester City, which makes him – according to Messi – a strong candidate to compete for the Ballon d’Or.
The third player chosen by the flea is French star Kylian Mbappe, the only one of the four who played alongside Messi.
Barcelona youth player Lamine Yamal came fourth, according to Planet Football.
Messi said, “Yamal has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or in the coming years.”
The Argentine star holds the title of the award in the last edition, as he won it due to his legendary performance with Argentina and his leadership of his country to win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
