Amy Schumer Opens Up About Weight Loss Journey, Criticizes Celebrity Deception

A growing conversation surrounding weight loss medications and celebrity transparency reached a new level this week as comedian Amy Schumer publicly discussed her experiences with Mounjaro and Ozempic, and sharply criticized those who misrepresent their methods for achieving weight loss.

Schumer revealed in March that she utilizes Mounjaro, a medication initially designed to treat type 2 diabetes, but also used for weight loss. She noted the financial barriers to access, explaining that insurance coverage is often limited to patients with diabetes or severe obesity. “What, according to most of the Internet, I have,” she joked, but emphasized her positive experience with the drug and desire to be candid about it.

Navigating Weight Loss Medications: Schumer’s Personal Journey

The star of films like “Complete Beauty” ( I Feel Pretty ) has previously acknowledged using Ozempic, another GLP-1 medication, but shared in January that she had a “terrible experience” with it. Schumer explained on The Howard Stern Show that a genetic predisposition – a gene called GDF15 – makes her particularly susceptible to nausea. This was also a significant issue during her pregnancy, following the birth of her son in 2019.

“So I tried Ozempic almost three years ago,” Schumer recounted. “I literally vomit, and then there is no energy anymore. But others use it and feel great. May God bless them.” Despite initially losing 30 pounds (approximately 13.5 kg) and “looking great,” she found herself physically debilitated, unable to even “lift her head out of the pillow” due to the severe nausea.

The Call for Honesty in a Culture of Image

In 2023, during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Schumer voiced strong disapproval of celebrities who she believes are dishonest about their weight loss strategies. She specifically called out those who claim to have achieved results solely through diet and exercise, suggesting they are misleading the public.

“Be honest with people,” Schumer emphasized. “When I did a liposuction, I also said openly.” This statement underscores her belief in transparency and accountability, particularly within the often-opaque world of celebrity wellness.

The comedian’s willingness to openly discuss her experiences, both positive and negative, with various weight loss interventions is sparking a broader conversation about body image, health, and the pressures faced by public figures.
