An EL AL flight attendant who arrived in China on a cargo flight was found positive for the Omicron variant. The flight attendant is staying in an isolation facility at a hospital in accordance with the procedures in the country and is in contact with the Israeli consulate.
Before arriving in the country, the flight attendant was tested twice in Israel and was negative, and then found positive in China. In the last few hours, efforts have been made to return the flight attendant to Israel and she may return tomorrow (Monday) on an EL AL cargo flight. China is not currently being blamed for Israel.
China, which advocates a zero-case policy, earlier this week imposed a blockade on the northern city of Xi’an, in which it ordered all city residents to stay in their homes. Only one person from each household is allowed to leave every two days to purchase essentials, while non-essential businesses are closed. The Chinese Ministry of Health did not report whether the new cases identified were of the new variant or of the previous version of the virus.
