The organization supporting journalists in the field is publishing a collection of 100 photos by the great American photographer.
For the new album in his collection 100 photos for press freedom, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) chose the American Elliott Erwitt and his sometimes comical images of humans and dogs around the world. This album, the 74th in the collection, will be sold from Thursday on newsstands and in bookstores at the price of 12.50 euros, and also via the RSF online store.
The anonymous black and whites in the streets of New York, Barcelona or on the beach of Rio de Janeiro rub shoulders with photos of Marilyn Monroe reading or Arnold Schwarzenegger as a young bodybuilder, and images of dogs that the photographer considers to be “people with more hair».
Born in 1928 in France to Russian immigrant parents, Elliott Erwitt grew up in Italy before emigrating to the United States on the eve of the Second World War. He has resided in New York for decades. Returning to the Magnum agency in 1953, he was a photoreporter for the major illustrated press magazines of the 1950s and 1960s. RSF album sales represent 30% of the association’s annual budget.
With consultative status at the UN and UNESCO, RSF, an organization based in Paris, has 12 offices around the world and correspondents in 130 countries. It concretely supports journalists in the field through mobilization campaigns, legal and material aid, physical security devices and tools (bulletproof vests, helmets, practical guides and insurance) and digital protection (digital security workshops ).
