Yesterday, Wednesday, a number of experts from the authorities concerned with solving the problem of rising groundwater levels in the city of Zliten discussed the results of the work of the technical teams with regard to geological and engineering studies, the work they completed and the measures and procedures they recommended, throughout the period of their work.
The Ministry of Local Government stated in a statement that the meeting was held with the participation of the Supreme Technical Committee in charge of following up on the phenomenon of groundwater overflow, the technical team to follow up on the phenomenon of rising groundwater levels in the city of Zliten, the dean and members of the Municipal Council – Zliten, those responsible for the offices related to the problem of rising water levels, and mayors. The meeting was also attended by the head of the Central Water District, the executive body for drilling and maintaining water wells, the housing and utility projects implementation body, the Urban Planning Authority – Zliten, the head of the Zliten Municipality Crisis Committee, and the head of the university’s office for engineering consulting.
The Chairman of the Supreme Technical Committee, Dr. Saleh Al-Sadiq gave a visual presentation in which he explained the general situation and developments regarding the phenomenon of groundwater overflow, in addition to the projects that are being worked on by the competent agencies. He also reviewed the studies related to the projects and the communications that included the recommendations reached by the committee and which were referred to the Prime Minister’s office for approval.
The Executive Authority for Well Drilling and Maintenance reviewed a report on what had been accomplished in drilling monitoring wells in the municipality, explaining the construction designs for these wells and geological layers.
The meeting included an extensive discussion by the attendees, and some questions from the people about this phenomenon, centered around sustainable and quick solutions to the crisis, and the time period for their implementation.
