A journalist from the Indian news agency Press Trust in India (IPI) will cover the European elections from Sofia, and a journalist from BTA – the parliamentary vote in New Delhi, India, for a period of two weeks. This was agreed today by the general director of BTA Kiril Valchev and the executive director of Press Trust in India Vijay Joshi, who was a guest of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA).
He met with the general director of BTA Kiril Valchev, deputy general director Evgenia Drumeva, with Lyubomir Martynov – deputy director of the “International Information” Directorate, as well as with the editors Gabriela Ivanova and Bozhidar Kolev. At the meeting, the possibilities for the exchange of journalists were discussed between the two agencies as stipulated in the cooperation agreement signed between BTA and the Indian News Agency in 2023 in Toronto, Canada.

Vijay Joshi is the executive director and editor-in-chief of the Press Trust of India (PTI), India’s national news agency. His biography, published on the agency’s website, states that he previously worked for the Associated Press (AP). He has worked in five countries for The Associated Press in various capacities, most recently as Southeast Asia chief based in Bangkok. He has reports from more than 30 countries around the world, mostly in South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
Vijay Joshi holds a BA in Communication and Journalism from Osmania University, Hyderabad and an MSc in Marine Geology. After completing his education, Joshi worked for the Indian Express for a year before joining PTI as deputy editor in 1986. He left PTI in 1989 to join AP, where his five-year stint in New Delhi is marked by numerous publications relating to Singapore, Cairo, Malaysia and Thailand. Joshi’s interests include travel, photography, music, science and Indian history.
