An Iranian citizen who planned a chemical weapons attack was arrested in Germany

A 32-year-old Iranian citizen was arrested this morning (Sunday) by the local police in Dusseldorf, Germany, after allegedly planning to carry out an Islamist-motivated chemical attack, using toxic substances such as cyanide and ricin. Another suspect was arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.

According to the German newspaper Die Welt, investigators raided the Iranian national’s residence around midnight, with fire and police teams, many of whom wore protective suits, after specific information from an intelligence source.

Last November, German security officials accused the Iranian Revolutionary Guards of planning terrorist attacks against synagogues in Dusseldorf and of spying on the president of the Central Council of German Jews.
