Former Israeli hostage Elma Avraham has been discharged from Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva more than five months after she was released during the temporary ceasefire with Hamas, Israel’s TPS news agency reported.

Avraham was abducted from her home on October 7 in Kibbutz Nahal Oz and was released on November 26 along with 17 other hostages.

“I had the strength to go back to you, to see all of you and especially my children and family,” Abraham told reporters, and insisted that the remaining hostages “must be released right now.” Her daughter Tali Amano said her 84-year-old mother’s needs were neglected during her 50-day captivity in Gaza. As a result, Avraham was transported by plane directly to Soroka.

Family members said she returned with a heart rate of just 40 beats per minute and a body temperature of 28 degrees. Her family tried to send medicine through the Red Cross as part of an agreement to extend humanitarian aid to Gaza in exchange for a supply of medicine. But the medicine was never delivered, and soldiers found boxes of medicines that had not been opened and were labeled with the names of the hostages at Nasser Hospital in Gaza.

At least 1,200 people were killed and 240 Israelis and foreigners were taken hostage on October 7 in Hamas attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border. It is believed that about 30 of the remaining 133 hostages are dead, writes BTA.
