Lost to the world of music: Andrew (Andy) Fletcher, a friend and co-founder of the British band Depeche Mode, passed away today (Thursday) at the age of 60. He is survived by a wife, two children, parents and three siblings.
The band announced his death on social media: “We are amazed and filled with great sadness due to the early death of our dear friend, family member and band member Andy‘ Fletch ’Fletcher.
Fletch had a heart of gold and was always there if anyone needed support, a lively conversation, a good laugh or a cold beer. We sympathize with his family and we hope that they will be in your thoughts and that you will respect their privacy during this difficult time. “
Fletcher played bass in a band he formed with Vince Clark and went on to play synthesizer in the band “Composition of Sound”, along with Martin Gore. In 1980, the three formed Depeche Mode together with Dave Gahan, who was chosen as lead singer. He is the only band member who has never written or composed a song in a band, although he has expressed interest in doing so in the past.
