Anna Camp on ‘Scream 7,’ New Relationship, and Embracing Authenticity
The actress confirmed she revisited the iconic horror franchise ahead of her role in the upcoming seventh installment, set for release on February 27, 2026, and shared insights into her personal life and future projects.
Anna Camp is diving headfirst into a new chapter, both professionally and personally. The actress, known for her roles in Pitch Perfect and The Help, recently discussed her preparation for Scream 7 and her burgeoning relationship with girlfriend Jade Whipkey while attending the Mediterrane Film Festival’s Golden Bee Awards in Malta on Sunday.
Camp revealed she thoroughly re-engaged with the Scream universe after being cast. “Definitely did,” she stated when asked if she rewatched the franchise. While familiar with the original 1996 film – which she’s seen “four times already” – she revisited the subsequent installments. “I hadn’t seen the newest ones, but I remember the first one,” she explained to The Hollywood Reporter. She anticipates the new film will be “really thrilling” for audiences, mirroring her own experience during production.
A key element of the upcoming Scream film is the return of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott. Camp emphasized the significance of this, calling Campbell and her character “iconic.” “It’s a coming home story for her,” Camp noted, “It’s returning to the original cast and the original format.” She was particularly impressed by Campbell’s collaborative dynamic with director and writer Kevin Williamson, who is returning to helm the franchise after launching it decades ago. “To watch their dialogue together and their shorthand, I was like, ‘I want that. I want a relationship like that with the director,’” Camp shared.
Beyond Scream 7, Camp is navigating a new public relationship with Jade Whipkey, after the couple debuted on the red carpet at the Bride Hard premiere. The relationship has drawn attention, particularly regarding their age gap – Camp is 42, while Whipkey is 24. Camp acknowledged the challenges of coming out later in life and doing so publicly. “It’s been a little overwhelming, obviously,” she admitted. “People are having [lots of chatter] about our age gap, so it’s been a lot to deal with and hold my own with, but it’s taught me that I should live authentically as myself.”
Camp expressed overwhelming happiness and support, noting that she’s “never been happier.” She recounted receiving encouragement from an unexpected source: an Olympic medalist who shared her own experience in an age-gap relationship. “She said that she was in an age gap relationship, and she was on the younger side of it but that it was the most fulfilling relationship of her entire life. She said, ‘Don’t listen to any of that stuff.’ I was, like, ‘Thank you, I’ll take that.’” Camp and Whipkey have been dating for nearly seven months, and their trip to Malta marked their first major vacation together.
Looking ahead, Camp is eager to return to the stage and is actively seeking a play or musical role. She also has several film projects in development, including independent films and scripts she is producing herself. “I’m not sitting around waiting for the phone to ring. I’m working and doing it on my own, which is really exciting,” she stated.
