For a long time, since 2016, works have been carried out to implement an energy-saving system in the streets of border guard Berdavan. On a phased basis, every year, the number of illuminated streets in the village increases. The approach of developing infrastructure in remote and especially border villages is fundamental to Viva-MTS and the Foundation for Conservation of Wildlife and Cultural Values (FPWC). The partners of the years, the border guard in Berdavan have completed the next stage of the project.

By 2019, the partners had installed 325 LED-lights, lighting up 10.5 km of roads as a result of the introduction of an energy-saving system. In 2020-21, the Noyemberyan community administration also made a certain contribution. the number of energy-saving exterior lighting LED lights was increased by another 115, lighting up a 4.5 km stretch of road in total. With the street lighting program alone, 440 LED-lights were installed in 2016-2021, illuminating a 15 km long road. As a result, the main streets of the community, the border of the village, the streets leading to the kindergarten, school and other structures of community significance were illuminated. This is a summary of the partnership between Viva-MTS and the Foundation for Conservation of Wildlife and Cultural Heritage (FPWC) in Berdavan.

Viva-MTS general director Ralph Yirikyan, Noyemberyan community head Arsen Aghababyan, Berdavan administrative head Aram Zurabyan, program coordinator Martin Maralchyan and community residents participated in the launch of the next part of the system.

“We are back in Berdavan to assess the ongoing work. For us, the process ends with a tour of the newly lit streets, and for the village, the result is long-term. We see the emotional side of the project – people’s satisfaction, and the residents – the rational side. Energy saving, safe walking, etc. This is an important program for remote and especially border villages. And that is also the reason why we try to contribute to the development of infrastructure with consistent, annual efforts,” said Viva-MTS General Director Ralph Yirikyan.

Berdavan is one of the rare border villages of Armenia where the streets are lit up all night. The environmental component of LED headlights also ensures a stable and clean environment. The effectiveness and importance of the system have already been evaluated in the village. The financial burden of the community has eased. LED lamps are more efficient and durable, last much longer and consume 80% less electricity. Thanks to the regulation of the lighting problem, the problems of safe walking and traffic in the late hours of the day have also been solved, which is extremely important for villages with such a geographical location.

The partners targeting infrastructure development in the border villages, within the framework of the “Network of Ecovillages” project, have been developing an effective partnership in Berdavan village of Tavush region since 2015. In addition to building an external lighting system, other projects were also implemented here. the kindergarten and the music school of the village were provided with heating with solar systems.
