UFL Coaching Carousel Continues with Proehl Taking Helm of Battlehawks

The United Football League (UFL) is finalizing coaching assignments ahead of its March return, announcing significant changes that see former NFL receiver Ricky Proehl named head coach of the St. Louis Battlehawks and Anthony Becht moving to lead the Orlando Storm.

The league, undergoing a partial reconfiguration of its eight franchises, is aiming to build momentum following strong fan engagement in previous seasons.

Proehl Returns to St. Louis as Head Coach

Proehl, who has served as the Battlehawks’ receivers coach since 2023, will step into the head coaching role. He brings a wealth of experience to the position, having spent 17 years as an NFL player, including appearances in four Super Bowls – winning two with the St. Louis Rams. He also held a coaching position with the Carolina Panthers during their Super Bowl 50 run, and spent six seasons overall with the Panthers organization.

“I have so many meaningful and special memories of St. Louis — not only because of the success on the field, but because of the people who made it feel like home,” Proehl said in a press release. “I valued the opportunity to work alongside Anthony Becht, wish him the very best, and am truly honored to return now as the Battlehawks head coach. Since my playing career, my focus has been on developing players and helping them reach the next level. We will continue that commitment as we work to bring another football championship to the best sports town in the country.”

Becht Heads to Orlando

Former NFL tight end Anthony Becht, who previously coached the Battlehawks from 2023 through 2025, will now lead the Orlando Storm. This move represents a key shift in leadership as the UFL prepares for its upcoming season.

The Battlehawks have consistently demonstrated strong fan support, attracting the largest crowds to their home games. This dedicated fanbase will be eager to see how Proehl builds upon the team’s existing success. The UFL’s return in March promises a fresh start and renewed competition across the league.
