Antonio Brown Extradited to U.S., Faces Attempted Murder Charge
Former NFL star Antonio Brown is in police custody after being extradited from Dubai and booked into Essex County Jail in New Jersey on Thursday, facing a serious attempted murder charge stemming from an incident in South florida. The legal troubles of the once-celebrated wide receiver continue, marking another chapter in a career increasingly defined by off-field controversies.
Brown’s return to the U.S. follows accusations related to a celebrity boxing event held in May, where authorities allege he engaged in a violent altercation. According to reports, the 37-year-old allegedly obtained a handgun from a security staffer and discharged two shots toward a man with whom he had previously been involved in a physical fight. The victim, identified as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed investigators that one of the bullets grazed his neck.
The incident has led to a second-degree attempted murder charge, which carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Brown is currently being extradited to Miami, Florida, to face the charges.
This is not Brown’s first encounter with the law.Throughout his career and following his departure from the NFL, he has faced accusations ranging from battery of a moving truck driver to multiple domestic violence allegations and failure to meet child support obligations. These recurring legal issues have cast a long shadow over his legacy.
Brown enjoyed a highly prosperous 12-season career in the NFL, beginning with the pittsburgh Steelers in 2008. He whent on to play for the Oakland Raiders – though he never took the field for them – the New England Patriots, and ultimately concluded his professional football journey with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A six-time All-Pro and Super Bowl champion, Brown was once considered one of the league’s most dynamic and productive wide receivers.
the incident unfolded after a celebrity boxing match in Miami. Brown and Nantambu reportedly had a prior altercation, which escalated after the event. Brown allegedly secured a firearm from a member of his security detail and fired at Nantambu, who sustained a minor injury. Following the shooting, Brown fled the country, eventually being apprehended in Dubai. Authorities in Dubai cooperated with U.S.law enforcement, leading to his extradition and subsequent booking in New Jersey before being moved to florida.
