Rockets fired at the Kurdish city of Erbil in northern Iraq on Sunday night was carried out from Iranian territory. This was reported by the Associated Press (AP) with reference to representatives of the Iraqi security services and US officials.

The interlocutors of the agency did not provide more detailed information about the place from which the shelling of the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan was carried out. An Iraqi senior official said the target was the US consulate in Erbil, but none of the rockets that landed near the US diplomatic mission under construction caused serious damage. There were also no casualties.

Earlier, the Kurdistan-24 TV channel reported that several rockets fell near the US Consulate General. Initially, the media reported on the suspension of the Erbil airport. However, the airport administration did not confirm this information. The Iranian news agency Iran International reports that the rockets hit Erbil at exactly 1:20 am – the same time that the General of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Qasem Soleimani, was killed as a result of an American drone strike.
