jpnn.comJAKARTA – General Chair of the Association of Telecommunications Network Providers (APJATEL) Jerry M. Swandy hopes that Starlink will be operated in urban areas or 3T (Outermost, Frontier and Disadvantaged) areas.

According to Jerry, Starlink should not operate in big cities. This is because these cable-based internet companies have made quite expensive investments to provide connectivity.

“We hope that Starlink can be used in urban or out-of-city areas, 3T. “If Starlink enters retail or city areas, it could disrupt the ecosystem in terms of price and service,” said Jerry in Rasuna Said, South Jakarta, Monday (29/4).

He said that his party was still discussing further with the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) regarding the entry of Starlink.

Meanwhile, Starlink is a satellite constellation development project that is being run by a United States company called SpaceX.

The project aims to present a satellite-based internet communication system that has high performance and at a very affordable price.

“APJATEL’s view is that we still have to discuss with Kominfo colleagues the deployment of Starlink. How wide is the scope?” he said.

Meanwhile, Director of Telecommunications at the Directorate General of Post and Information Technology (PPI Kominfo) Aju Widya Sari said that currently the Operational Feasibility Test (ULO) for Starlink has been completed.

Jerry M. Swandy hopes that Starlink will be operated in urban areas or 3T (Outermost, Frontier and Disadvantaged) areas. This is the goal.
