Apple has shown a new iMac. The desktop computer gets the M4 chip and AI functions. Something has also changed visually.
Thinner, faster and with Apple Intelligence: The iPhone company has revised its desktop computer iMac. In an email and a video, the company says that the computer now receives the M4 chip that was introduced last spring.
Compared to the version with the M1 chip, the iMac should be “up to 1.7 times faster in everyday productivity tasks and up to 2.1 times faster in demanding workflows such as photo editing and gaming,” it says.
With the so-called Neural Engine, which is contained in the M4 chip, the computer should also be equipped for the AI functions Apple Intelligence. Today it was announced that Apple’s AI offensive will also start in Germany in spring 2025.
This allows, among other things, to improve texts by having the AI reformulate, proofread or summarize them – in emails, messages, notes, Apple’s Office application Pages and third-party apps. You can find out more about the AI functions here.
Apple has also redesigned its desktop computer visually. Compared to the previous model, the device has become thinner. Buyers now have the option to order the 24-inch display with nano-texture glass. This additional coating on the screen reduces annoying reflections and glare.
The new iMac also has a redesigned camera with a resolution of 12 megapixels and up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports. The iMac models also have WLAN 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. The iMac is available in green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver.
The iMacs are available to pre-order now and will launch on November 8th. The cheapest model costs 1,499 euros and has 16 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD.
