Apple is rolling out its next wave of silicon upgrades, centered on the M6 chipset, with entry-level MacBook Pro models slated for an autumn debut alongside a phased display roadmap that pushes advanced OLED and touchscreen features into 2027.
The Mac mini was announced on August 25, 2026, and went on sale on September 22, 2026.
The transition follows the debut of the M6 chip in that newly released Mac mini. With Apple’s latest silicon platform now in the wild, attention turns to how the Cupertino company will sequence updates across its portable and desktop lines.
Apple Prepares Autumn M6 MacBook Pro Release
According to reporting from 9To5Mac, this autumn rollout will focus exclusively on a 14-inch base model, with Apple skipping Pro and Max versions of the M6 chip entirely.

Mark Gurman reported that Apple is bypassing Pro and Max iterations for this generation, meaning the next professional-tier silicon will be the M7 Pro and M7 Max families in 2027.
OLED MacBook Pro Pushed To 2027
San Jose-based technology company Apple is preparing a major redesign of the laptop portfolio, potentially launching in October under the rumored MacBook Ultra name, according to a report by technology news website 9to5Mac.
Rumors point to a heavily redesigned MacBook Pro featuring an OLED display, touchscreen support, and a smaller hole-punch camera cutout potentially paired with a Dynamic Island-style interface in macOS.

Technical changes are also on the horizon, as the new model is expected to introduce touchscreen functionality even though macOS remains primarily designed for keyboard and trackpad use. Because separate chip tiers are involved, the upcoming touchscreen model is expected to use M5 Pro and M5 Max chips instead of the M6. The transition to OLED technology is anticipated to bring deeper blacks and higher contrast to the Mac, while potentially improving power efficiency and removing the notch introduced with the 2021 redesign.
