Want to instantly improve your iPhone photography? Newer iPhones can now retroactively apply a portrait mode effect to photos taken in standard mode. To enable this, head to Settings > Camera and ensure the Portraits in Photo Mode toggle is switched on.
1. Automatic Portraits
That perfect, candid shot of a friend or pet often happens too quickly to fumble with camera settings. Fortunately, recent iPhone models can capture depth information even when not explicitly in Portrait mode. Once enabled, you can add a beautiful depth effect to any close-up of a person, cat, or dog directly within the Photos app. You can even adjust the focus point and lighting effects for a truly polished look.

2. Photographic Styles
Looking for a quick way to give your photos a consistent vibe? Photographic Styles are like advanced filters, but with more control. You can choose from 15 different styles, ranging from subtle enhancements to dramatic looks. And you can customize the intensity of each style using simple sliders.
To set a default Photographic Style for all future photos, navigate to Settings > Camera > Photographic Styles and follow the on-screen instructions.

3. Image Adjustments
Fine-tune your photos with precise control over exposure, highlights, shadows, and more. The Adjust tab offers a full suite of editing tools. Lowering highlights can reveal hidden details, while increasing shadows and decreasing contrast can add depth. Don’t be afraid to experiment with saturation and vibrance to bring dull photos to life.
New to editing? Tap the magic wand icon for automatic adjustments, then tweak the results to your liking.

4. Live Photo Effects
Live Photos capture 1.5 seconds of video before and after your shot, adding a dynamic element. But they offer more than just a quick replay. Tap the Live label to reveal effects like Long Exposure, which creates a blurred, artistic look—perfect for turning a mundane scene into something special. Loop and Bounce effects transform your Live Photos into GIF-like animations.
5. Clean Up
Need to remove a photobomber or an unwanted object? The Photos app’s Clean Up tool uses artificial intelligence to seamlessly erase distractions. Simply select the Clean Up tab, and tap on the object you want to remove. You can also manually doodle over areas for more precise editing. Note that edits made with Clean Up will be marked as AI-generated by some social media platforms.

Straighten crooked horizons and refine your composition with the Crop tool. And when you’ve perfected your edits, use the Copy Edits feature to apply them to multiple photos at once, ensuring a consistent look across your entire collection.
