Apple Releases iOS 27.2 With Siri AI Enhancements and Security Patches

Apple officially released iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 on October 26, 2026, marking the first major update to the 27th-generation operating system. The release introduces extensive enhancements to Siri AI, new hardware-specific features for the iPhone Duo, and critical security patches addressing over 160 vulnerabilities across the company’s ecosystem.

Apple launched the 27th-generation operating system in September. The update, which follows that initial release, provides improvements for compatible devices ranging from the iPhone 11 to the latest iPhone 18 Pro Max and the iPhone Duo.

Users can access the update directly via the Software Update option found under the “General” tab in the device Settings menu.

Siri AI Gains Contextual Intelligence and Multilingual Support

A primary focus of iOS 27.2 is the evolution of Siri AI into a more context-aware assistant. The system can now retain information from previous conversation threads, allowing users to ask follow-up questions without needing to restate background details. For instance, if a user discusses dinner plans, the assistant can proactively suggest adding an agenda item to the Calendar or creating an entry in Reminders. This integration extends to data from various sources, including Safari browsing history, reading lists, and photos attached in Messages.

The update significantly broadens the reach of Siri AI by adding support for five new languages: French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. Despite these advancements, Apple notes that availability depends on regional regulations and specific hardware. These AI-driven features are restricted to the iPhone 16 series and newer, the iPhone 15 Pro, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Text interaction has become more granular. Users can now select and copy specific portions of a response from Siri rather than being forced to copy the entire output.

iPhone Duo Receives Pencil Support and FaceTime Adds Dual Capture

The iPhone Duo, Apple’s foldable device, receives dedicated functionality through iOS 27.2. The device now supports the USB-C Apple Pencil, which can be used on both the external and main interior displays for tasks in apps like Notes and Preview. The update also introduces “Edge Light,” a feature that illuminates the edges of the inner screen to provide optimized lighting on the user’s face during video calls.

FaceTime gains “Dual Capture” functionality. This allows users to broadcast video from both the front-facing and rear-facing cameras simultaneously during group calls. To improve accessibility, Apple has added support for third-party sign language interpreters and live captioning services directly within the FaceTime interface.

Core Apps Receive System-Wide Updates and Security Patches

iOS 27.2 brings sweeping updates to core applications. The Apple TV app now includes Simple Profiles, enabling individual household members to maintain separate watch histories and tailored recommendations. Meanwhile, the Podcasts app has been refreshed. For sports fans, a new Multiview mode allows for the simultaneous streaming of up to four live events.

Apple addressed more than 160 vulnerabilities in this release. Apple notes that none of these specific bugs were identified as being actively exploited in the wild.

The patches are designed to prevent potential unauthorized access to sensitive data.

Apple has provided a separate security path for older devices, including the release of iOS 26.7.2 to address security gaps for users still on the previous generation of the operating system. In addition to the main iOS 27.2 update, Apple has released iOS 26.7.2 for older devices. Apple advises users to perform a full backup of their data via iCloud or a computer before beginning the installation process to ensure a smooth transition to the new version.
