A Paris-based startup is attempting to solve a common dilemma for watch enthusiasts: the choice between the timeless appeal of a conventional timepiece and the functionality of a smartwatch. Announced at the 2026 Consumer Electronics show (CES) in Las Vegas, Smartlet is a modular watch strap designed to let users wear both a mechanical watch and a smartwatch simultaneously, one stacked atop the other.
The system, pitched as a solution for those who appreciate both form and function, allows wearers to mount an analog watch on the front of their wrist while concealing a smartwatch or fitness tracker on the underside. This innovative approach eliminates the need to choose between aesthetics and practicality, offering the benefits of both worlds.
The Smartlet Band starts at $418, but this price does not include either the analog or digital watch itself. Consumers are essentially purchasing the strap system, which boasts compatibility with a wide range of popular smartwatches and fitness trackers. These include devices from Apple, Samsung, Google, Garmin, Fitbit, and whoop.
On the traditional watch side, the strap accommodates watches with lug widths ranging from 18 to 24 mm, encompassing high-end models from brands like Omega, Tudor, TAG Heuer, and even Rolex.
From concept to Reality: Addressing a Personal frustration
The idea for Smartlet originated with founder David Ohayon, who expressed his frustration with having to select between his analog watch and Apple Watch each morning. “I was tired of having to play favorites,” Ohayon reportedly stated. Smartlet, in theory, offers a seamless transition “from fitness nerd to polished executive with the flick of a wrist.”
Practical Concerns and Aesthetic Considerations
However, the system isn’t without potential drawbacks. the most meaningful concern raised is the added bulk. Smartlet claims the system adds between 9 and 12 mm of height to the underside of the wrist when a connected device is attached. One observer noted the potential for increased risk of scratches, given the device’s exposed underside.
The aesthetic is also a key consideration.Smartlet’s marketing materials specifically target what they call the “modern gentleman,” employing language that emphasizes luxury watch culture and aspirational lifestyles. Translation: this product is geared toward affluent individuals who want to showcase their investment pieces while still tracking their fitness goals.
Despite not being the most practical or affordable solution for the average consumer, smartlet stands out as a highly niche and intriguing product that captured attention at this year’s CES.
