The Election Commission (EC) has appointed 141 judicial magistrates for the first phase of the upcoming Sixth Upazila Parishad elections. They will complete the short trial by considering the election crime.

It is said that under the authority of Upazila Parishad Election Rules, the Department of Law and Justice, the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, in consultation with the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, took into account the electoral offenses and tried them in a summary manner. 141 judicial magistrates were appointed as first class magistrates for the two days before the polling, the day of polling and the two days after polling i.e. from May 6 to 10 for a total of five days on the occasion of the chairmanship election.

Magistrates may take a Bench Assistant/Stenographer/Office Assistant as an assistant while on duty. The respective District Commissioners will provide the necessary vehicles while performing their duties in their respective areas. Apart from this, they will provide the support of two armed policemen to conduct the court in the respective constituencies.

According to the schedule announced by the EC, in the first phase, polling will be held in 150 upazilas on May 8. In the second phase, polling will be held in 160 upazilas on May 21, in the third phase in 112 upazilas on May 29 and in the fourth phase in 55 upazilas on June 5. In the first phase, 22, 24 in the second phase, 21 in the third phase and 21 in the fourth phase will be accepted in electronic voting machine (EVM) in two upazilas.
