by time news

Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed a new commander in Ukraine in a bid to accelerate the success of a special military offensive in the country.

As Russia launches its 45th day of offensive in Ukraine, Russia has lost thousands of Russian troops and has not achieved any significant gains.

It is also withdrawing troops from the Ukrainian capital Kiev and the port city of Mariupol, currently focusing on the eastern border areas of Ukraine.

In this context, Russian President Vladimir Putin is pushing for the capture of only Ukraine’s eastern border town of Donbass, in celebration of World War II victory against the Nazis next month (May 9).

Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Russian Commander-in-Chief General Alexander Dvornikov to lead Russia’s special offensive in Ukraine.

An unnamed Western official said he had led Russia’s military operations in Syria.
