The Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement has approved 11 procurement proposals, including a proposal to import 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat to ensure food security in the country. 11 The total cost of the purchase proposal will be 3041 crores 34 lakhs 55 thousand taka 580 taka. 1 proposal related to LNG terminal was approved in the meeting.

The proposals were approved at the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement held under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali in the conference room of the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat on Thursday (February 29). At the end of the meeting, Syed Mahbub Khan, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division highlighted various aspects of the approved proposals.

He said that the third meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for 2024 and the fourth meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement were held today. 2 proposals were presented for the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and 11 proposals for the approval of the Purchase Committee. The total amount of 11 proposals approved by the purchase committee is 3041 crore 34 lakh 55 thousand 580 taka.

Additional Secretary said, the committee has approved the proposal to import 50 thousand (+5%) metric tons of wheat under package-8 through international open tender. 4 tenders were submitted when international open tender was called for import of 50 thousand (+5%) metric tonnes of wheat for the purpose of consolidating security stock of food grains in the financial year 2023-2024. All 4 propositions are technically responsive. M/s Agrocorp International Pvt Ltd, Singapore will supply this wheat to the responsive lowest bidder recommended by TEC after all tender process. 1 crore 51 lakh 59 thousand 500 US dollars as 303.19 US dollars per metric ton will cost 166 crore 75 lakh 45 thousand taka in Bangladeshi currency. The price of wheat per kg is Rs 33.35.

Besides, in the meeting, a proposal regarding the agreement with Summit LNG Terminal 2 Company Limited instead of Summit Oil and Shipping Company Limited in the use of Maheshkhali III Floating LNG Terminal has been approved, said the Additional Secretary.
