The Dolomiti Energia Trentino accomplishes a real feat and wins an epic game 1 at the Forum againstOlimpia Milan: the first act of the championship quarter-finals goes to Forray and companionscapable of imposing themselves 84-85 after 40′ of maximum intensity. The point-by-point finale was decided by a great basket by Baldwin, who scored 17 points and was the hero of the day: best scorer for Trento was the phenomenal Derek Cooke Jr with 21 points (10/11 from the field) and 8 rebounds.
Gara-2, also scheduled at the Assago Forum, will be played on Tuesday at 8pm: the series will move to the Trento sports hall for game 3 on Friday 17 May (two-ball at 8.45pm). The chronicle of the match. Thanks to three triples in rapid succession, the Bianconeri took the lead at the start of the match (9-11 with centers from Forray, Mooney and Baldwin). Milan responds with the same coin showing all the talent of Napier and Mirotic, but Trento holds its own with Biligha as protagonist (15-15). It was Shields’ initiatives and another triple from Napier that broke the balance: the Eagle had two great dunks from Cooke Jr but Baron and Hines scored the points to make it 32-21 after the first 10 minutes of the game. Dolomiti Energia, however, is not impressed and in fact responds in kind: Hubb drives the Juventus attack which finds its offensive point of reference in the area in an amazing Cooke Jr. Ellis’s all-round volleys and the substance of an incisive Alviti also in defense in the presence of Mirotic take care of the rest: Forray scores a couple of baskets of his own, Quinn puts his team back in the lead from the line before Hall’s free throws bring the teams at halftime at 43 all. The game is played on the tracks of balance: Biligha hits from the arc, Alviti and Baldwin make up for a couple of trivial turnovers with some great baskets. Forray scores the triple to make it 55-56, then it’s Kamar’s show: the number 44 rises to 13 personal points with the baskets that push the guests to 64-69 as the Forum scoreboard reads at the end of the third quarter. And the last 10 minutes are of rare competitive intensity: Hommes scores a crazy triple for 73-78, Milan’s defense raises its tone but Cooke Jr scores another 5 points to put his team ahead entering the final minute. At that point it’s Shields and Baldwin’s turn, and Kamar scores the winning basket that freezes the Forum.
The words of coach Galbiati: «In the first half we were exposed to their great physicality and the high shooting percentages of their attack: we asked the team to stay there with their heads and continue to fight and play our basketball, we came back and throughout the second half it was It was a long back and forth. In the end it was resolved by the play of a great player. We leave the Forum happy because there was a good spirit, good involvement of everyone, great attention to what we had prepared. In two days we will be asked to repeat ourselves. A special mention for Captain Forray, an inspiring man and player for this group of young people.”
