/ Since Monday, Arab and foreign countries announced their condemnation of the bombing by suspected Israeli warplanes that targeted the Iranian consulate in Syria, causing a number of deaths and injuries.

The UAE said in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that it “condemns the targeting of the Iranian diplomatic mission in the Syrian capital, Damascus.”

The Saudi Foreign Ministry expressed in a statement “the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s condemnation of targeting the Iranian consulate building in the Syrian capital, Damascus,” expressing “the Kingdom’s categorical rejection of targeting diplomatic facilities for any justification, and under any pretext, which is a violation of international diplomatic laws and the rules of diplomatic immunity.”

Qatar also condemned the attack, and the Foreign Ministry considered it in a statement “a blatant violation of international agreements and charters and diplomatic norms that criminalize attacks on the headquarters of diplomatic missions.”

In its statement, the Qatari Foreign Ministry stressed Doha’s refusal to “target diplomatic and consular missions and the need to provide protection for their employees in accordance with the rules of international law.”

In turn, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs condemned the attack, as the ministry’s official spokesman, Ambassador Sufyan Al-Qudah, said that targeting the consulate “represents a serious violation of international law, and an attack on the sanctity of diplomatic headquarters protected under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.”

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry stated in a statement that it “expresses its condemnation of the targeting of the Iranian diplomatic mission in the Syrian capital, Damascus,” adding that “this attack represents a clear and flagrant violation of international law and Syrian sovereignty and warns of the danger of compromising the security of diplomatic missions that have diplomatic immunity under international laws.”

The Iraqi statement pointed out that “the expansion of the cycle of violence in the region will lead to more chaos and instability,” according to the Iraqi News Agency.

The Russian Foreign Ministry, for its part, condemned the attack, stressing in a statement that “Israeli aggressive actions are unacceptable and must stop,” according to Sputnik.

The statement added: “We draw particular attention to the fact that the attack was carried out in a densely populated urban area, resulting in a high risk of mass casualties among the civilian population.”

Pakistan also condemned the attack on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus.

Israel does not usually comment on attacks launched by its forces in Syria.

In response to a question about the air strike in Syria today, an Israeli army spokesman said, “We do not comment on reports in foreign media.”

Iranian Ambassador to Syria Hossein Akbari, who was not harmed in the attack, told Iranian state television that between five and seven people, including diplomats, were killed in the attack and that Tehran’s response would be “harsh.”
