On August 2, RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan had a telephone conversation with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borel.
The interlocutors exchanged ideas on regional security issues. The humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh due to the illegal blocking of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan was discussed.
Ararat Mirzoyan stressed the imperative to immediately remove the blockade of Lachin Corridor in accordance with the decisions of the International Court of Justice of February 22 and July 6, and the urgency of supplying NK with food, medicine and other basic necessities.
The need to ensure the full and uninterrupted operation of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the only international humanitarian organization with access to Nagorno-Karabakh, was emphasized.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs called the case of kidnapping of Vagif Khachatryan, who was being transported from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia for medical purposes, by the border guard services of Azerbaijan, a gross violation of international humanitarian law.
The head of the Foreign Ministry of Armenia reaffirmed the position of the Armenian side regarding the importance of addressing the rights and security issues of the Nagorno-Karabakh people under the international mechanism.
The need for international partners to take clear steps to prevent ethnic cleansing by Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh was emphasized.
