ark: Lost Colony Expansion to Bridge Gap to Delayed Sequel, Ark 2
A new expansion for Ark: Survival Ascended, titled Ark: lost Colony, is set to launch on December 16th, serving as both a narrative link between previous game content and a stepping stone toward teh long-awaited Ark 2.
Studio Wildcard is forging ahead with its dinosaur survival universe despite the continued delays surrounding Ark 2, first revealed in 2020 with a now-notorious trailer featuring Vin Diesel. The upcoming Lost Colony expansion officially connects the storylines of the 2018 Extinction and 2019 Genesis expansions, while concurrently building anticipation for the sequel. However, the expansion’s reach extends beyond the game itself.
The expansion will also integrate elements from the ongoing Ark animated television series, which is currently halfway through its planned run. According to a company release, players can anticipate appearances from a star-studded cast, including Oscar winner Michelle yeoh, David Tennant, and Katie Sackhoff of Battlestar Galactica, featured in “cinematic anime sequences” produced by Japanese studio MAPPA.

Described as Survival Ascended’s “first canonical expansion,” Lost Colony will immerse players in the frozen landscapes of Arat Prime – the birthplace of the ARKs. Players will follow the journey of Mei Yin through what is described as an “intense journey into the heart of darkness.” The expansion promises new gameplay features, including unlockable character ability trees, “cursed” gear tiers, and innovative building systems. Players will also encounter new creatures to tame, most notably the ossidon, a formidable “hulking, engineered apex winter-predator.”

The launch of Lost Colony comes approximately six months after its initial declaration in June.However, the release date does little to quell speculation regarding the status of Ark 2. The sequel was initially announced in 2020,but its absence from the Ark content roadmap released earlier this year has led many to believe its arrival won’t occur until sometime after December 2026. One analyst noted that studio Wildcard has a history of project delays, a pattern recently demonstrated by the postponement of the second half of the Ark animated series, now slated for release sometime next year instead of its originally promised 2024 window.
