Under the auspices of Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB) and Arabahmet Region Development Company Ltd. Established with the contributions of Arkhe, it started its operations as the new culture, art and archive studies center of the capital Nicosia.

In the statement made by LTB, it was noted that the main purpose of Arkhe, which takes its name from the Latin expression “starting point”, was determined to bring the urban and cultural heritage of Nicosia into the social memory and make it a dynamic part of daily life.

In the statement, it was stated that Arkhe, located in the Arabahmet Culture House building, which was reopened for public use after a long time, “aims to support and implement creative works and productions that reflect the artistic and intellectual richness of Nicosia.”

First Exhibition: “Kadir Kaba – The Origin of Turkish Cypriot Photography”

It was announced that the first work to take place at Arkhe within the scope of art activities will be the exhibition titled “The Origin of Turkish Cypriot Photography” prepared by the photographer and researcher Kadir Kaba, and that the exhibition will be open to visitors between 1 December and 31 January.

In the statement, it was stated that the tradition of municipal publishing started again with Arkhe after an interval of nearly forty years, and that as a souvenir of the opening night, a facsimile of the original text of Claude Delaval Cobham’s Bibliography of Cyprus, printed in the State Printing House in Nicosia in 1886, was made.

It was noted that the LTB Collection room, which brings together documents, publications, photographs and objects related to the development and change of the Nicosia Turkish Municipality throughout history for the first time, was designed as a rentable area for organizations such as meetings and workshops, in addition to its function as an open modular exhibition hall.

Various events can be organized on the stage with a capacity of 130 people.

In the statement, the book collection includes the history of Nicosia city, as well as architecture and urban design; It was stated that while it brings together qualified publications on environment, sustainability and current urban studies, it also offers a common working space for researchers, and it was also emphasized that it is a stage that will host film screenings, theater plays, concerts, interviews and panels with a capacity of 130 people.
