Armenia has replaced its representatives in the NATO mission (Brussels), the High Command of Allies in Europe (Mons) and the OSCE mission (Vienna) with defense attachés. the decision was made at today’s government session.
It is noted that instead of a representative and a state adviser in international organizations, having an attaché on defense issues of the Republic of Armenia stems from the international practice formed in these international organizations, where the representatives of states on defense and military issues are mostly military personnel.
With the adoption of the draft decision, the position of the military representative of the RA in the RA mission to NATO is also reduced, which has been vacant for a long time and the further maintenance of this position within the framework of cooperation between the RA Ministry of Defense and NATO in the defense sector is no longer appropriate.
“Thus, with the adoption of the Projects, the following are defined:
1) the position of attaché for defense issues of the Republic of Armenia attached to the mission of the Republic of Armenia in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization;
2) The position of attaché for defense issues of the Republic of Armenia in the Supreme Command of the Allied Forces in Europe of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization attached to the mission of the Republic of Armenia in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization;
3) the position of attaché on defense issues of the Republic of Armenia attached to the mission of the Republic of Armenia in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe;
4) the position of the military representative of the Republic of Armenia in the mission of the Republic of Armenia in the organization of the North Atlantic Alliance is reduced”, it is stated in the justification of the project, which was presented to the government by the Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan.
