In the last three years, India has been one of the major arms suppliers to Armenia. this is reported by the author of the article of “The National Interest”, citing the sources of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India.

The author notes that Armenia is interested in more defense deals, including the signing of new agreements on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and countermeasures systems, medium-range surface-to-air missiles.

According to the author, before the 2020 war, India had a more or less clear position, supporting Armenia against Azerbaijan’s territorial aggression. Turkey and Pakistan’s support to Azerbaijan made India’s support to Armenia more significant.

In 2017, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Pakistan signed a trilateral agreement to develop defense and strategic ties. It is noteworthy that Azerbaijan has expressed its support to Pakistan and Armenia to India in the Kashmir issue. Turkey-Pakistan relations date back to 1947.

Apart from counterbalancing Turkey and Pakistan, India also views Armenia as a focal point to expand its strategic and economic ties to the South Caucasus. Delhi’s most important interests in this region lie in strategic connectivity projects. India’s interest in the INSTC (International North-South Corridor), of which Armenia is a part, is firmly rooted in its quest for land connectivity with Eurasia.
