RA Deputy Economy Minister Varos Simonyan received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Armenia Lee Seok-Bae.

Varos Simonyan, congratulating the ambassador on the occasion of starting a diplomatic mission in our country, expressed confidence that the ambassador will make an important contribution to the strengthening of Armenian-Korean relations and the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields. He considered the recently effective Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement to be significant, which will become a good opportunity for the activation of bilateral economic relations.

Lee Seok-Bae said that all efforts will be directed to bring the Armenian-Korean cooperation to a new, higher level. He mentioned in his speech: “The trade turnover between the two countries is growing steadily, but we must admit that the indicators of the current trade volumes indicate that the potential opportunities are not being used in full. That’s why I think it’s important to create strong legal foundations and strengthen business ties.”

The ambassador highlighted the recently held Armenian-Korean business forum, which, according to him, created an important platform for Armenian and Korean businessmen and investors from the point of view of exchange of experience and formation of new relations of interaction. He added that similar events will be organized frequently by the embassy. The ambassador considered the great potential of the development of information and telecommunication technologies and artificial intelligence in Armenia, and especially the possibilities of cooperation with Korea in this field.

The deputy minister presented the development potential of Armenia’s innovative and scientific sphere and noted: “It is important to create favorable conditions for the cooperation of joint scientific and research organizations, for the creation of new ones, which will also develop scientific infrastructures in Armenia.” Varos Simonyan presented the main goals of the investor support center and the economic priorities in which it will be possible to further develop the cooperation between the countries in the near future.

The parties reached an agreement on the processes aimed at strengthening business ties in the near future and assured that both sides will do everything possible to promote the development of bilateral relations in various formats.
