Jarell Quansah’s Pursuit of Playing Time Drives Bayer Leverkusen Move
A desire for consistent first-team football prompted Jarell Quansah to leave Liverpool for Bayer leverkusen this summer in a £35 million deal. The 22-year-old center-back, fresh off a Premier League title win with the Reds, acknowledged the need for regular matches to solidify his development adn push for a place in the England squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Quansah has quickly made an impact in the Bundesliga, scoring on his debut for Leverkusen and featuring in all six of their league fixtures. Despite a managerial change – with Erik ten Hag initially bringing him to the club before being replaced by Kasper hjulmand – quansah remains a key component of the team. Hjulmand’s side is currently fifth in the league, maintaining an undefeated streak of five consecutive matches after a 2-0 victory over Union Berlin on Saturday.
Leverkusen’s ambitions also extend to the Champions League, where Quansah has featured in stalemates against FC Copenhagen and PSV Eindhoven. A challenging upcoming fixture against reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain awaits.
Quansah remains grateful for the development he received at Liverpool. “I have been learning from some of the best players around me at the time at Liverpool,” he said. “Being able to do that has been so good for my career. It has always been a big part of it.” However, he firmly believes that the move to leverkusen provides the ideal platform to achieve his full potential and secure his place on the international stage.
