Around 100,000 residents in Shirak, Lori, Armavir, Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor and Syunik marzes will have round-the-clock water supply, RA Deputy Prime Minister Suren Papikyan said.

“In many of Armenia’s 11 urban and 37 rural communities, the replacement of old pipelines, the reconstruction of water intakes, daily regulating reservoirs and pumping stations, the installation of water meters and other works have already started,” he said.

Papikyan said that 81 million euros have been invested by the RA government, Germany’s KFW Bank, the European Investment Bank and the EU, thanks to which the Community Infrastructure Program is actively underway.

“More than 66 km of water pipelines will be installed, reconstruction of 20 water intakes, daily regulating reservoirs and pumping station, construction of 490 km of distribution network and installation of house connections of 180 km of water lines are planned. The number of water wells is about 18,000.

In many of the beneficiary communities, they have not had drinking water at all, and in some, due to the old pipelines and the lack of a distribution network, the water has reached the residents in only 1-2 hours. The significant reduction of water loss is one of the no less important advantages of this project implemented through the Territorial Development Fund of Armenia,” said the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia.
