Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie returns to full training ahead of Saturday’s Premier League match against Everton, following an injury sustained during a post-match warm-down.
The Ecuadorian left-back stepped up his recovery by participating in an Arsenal training session, moving past individual drills completed during an open session earlier in the week. Hincapie originally suffered the ankle problem during a post-match warm-down following a victory over Leeds United.
Hincapie Returns for Everton Matchday Squad
Twenty-one players took part in Arsenal’s pre-match walk ahead of the Premier League fixture at the weekend. With nine available spots on Premier League benches, only one player from the walking group is expected to drop out of the final selection, likely a reserve goalkeeper. As a result, all outfield players from the pre-match walk are presumably available to make the squad.

That outfield group includes Hincapie, putting him in position for an immediate return to matchday duties. His recovery arrives earlier than initial projections suggested. While manager Mikel Arteta admitted the issue looked a little bit more serious
at first, the defender returns in roughly two weeks instead of a feared three-week absence. Ryan Taylor of the Mirror reported that Hincapie took part in a session with the team on Friday after previously conducting individual work earlier in the week.
Defending The Warm-Down Routine
The warm-down that sidelined both Hincapie and teammate Martin Zubimendi drew outside scrutiny over Arsenal’s routines. Footage from the Leeds fixture showed goalkeeper Illan Meslier needing to pick up his teammate and carry him from the field as the defender clearly struggled in the immediate aftermath.

When you play these kind of small-sided games, there is contact, and these things can happen. They didn’t happen once last season and we did it 37 times I think, so the fact that it’s there, that people are watching and then you think it raises other doubts. What we can do is [say] ‘guys’, they are so competitive, ‘when we do that, please don’t touch each other too much,’ to avoid these kind of things, so that’s it.

Hincapie Provides Defensive Cover for Tactical Flexibility
While Hincapie edges closer to his first minutes back, Arsenal’s broader squad management continues to shift across competitions. With Arsenal looking to attack all four competitions, he will hope that when the opportunity presents itself, he takes it with both hands. The return of the left-back provides defensive cover and allows Myles Lewis-Skelly to operate more frequently in midfield, offering tactical flexibility as the team juggles domestic and European schedules.
Other squad updates see Martin Zubimendi traveling with the team following an ankle issue that previously landed him on the bench against Nottingham Forest and Bayern Munich. Cristhian Mosquera is also waiting on his first minutes post-injury and joined the squad on Saturday morning.
