ESRB Rates Zelda: Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Remake for November 2026

The Entertainment Software Rating Board published its official rating summary for the Nintendo Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, confirming an E10+ rating ahead of the game’s November 5, 2026 release date.

Nintendo’s upcoming remake of its 1998 classic pioneered 3D graphics, movement, and exploration on the Nintendo 64. The updated version arrives for the Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026, bringing overhauled visuals, symphonic orchestral music, and fully voiced cutscenes with expanded dialogue.

ESRB Rating Details Animated Blood and Fantasy Violence

The rating summary published by the Entertainment Software Rating Board assigns the title an E10+ for Everyone 10+ with Animated Blood and Fantasy Violence. Players assume the role of a hero exploring Hyrule, solving puzzles, and battling fantastical enemies such as bats, spiders, chickens, and guards using swords, shields, arrows, and magic spells.

According to the ESRB summary, battles feature impact sounds, colorful light effects, and cries of pain, while certain enemies emit green or purple blood when defeated. Larger boss enemies require more protracted combat.

Retailers Cut Physical Preorder Prices to Match Digital Edition

As physical preorders ramp up ahead of the November launch, major retailers have discounted the physical edition. Amazon and Walmart cut the physical preorder price from $69.99 to roughly $59.99, with Walmart listing the physical copy at $59.88. The digital edition sits at $59.99, putting physical and digital versions on equal footing.

Switch 2 Remake Adds Jump Button and Microphone Interaction

Previews of the Switch 2 remake reveal several new features alongside structural changes. The game introduces a dedicated jump button and the Hall of Fallen Heroes, a dedicated area where statues of defeated monsters reside for rematches and lore details.

Players can also use the Nintendo Switch 2 microphone to interact with Link’s ocarina by humming or playing a real instrument. Additionally, the game integrates with ZELDA NOTES through the Nintendo Switch App on smart devices to view maps and game information.

The release marks the proper Nintendo Switch 2 debut for the series outside of last-gen upgrades and spinoffs. The original developers drew inspiration for the Nintendo 64 title from live theater, a theatrical approach that the current remake embraces through its detailed visual style and world design.

During a hands-on preview event in New York City, journalists explored early sections of the game, including Child Link’s journey and later segments after acquiring the Master Sword in the Temple of Time as Adult Link. Reviewers noted that the combat style and camera framing echo early N64 demo versions and beta content, offering a more complete realization of Nintendo’s original design vision.

Buyers opting for the digital version prior to November 23, 2026, receive a digital wallpaper celebrating the 40th anniversary of the original franchise. Two new amiibo figures launching in 2027 will unlock special in-game masks, while existing Legend of Zelda series amiibo provide helpful rewards when scanned during gameplay.
