Tiger Woods’ Foundation Secures $50 Million, Announces Atlanta Learning Lab with $20 Million Grant

A significant philanthropic commitment from Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank highlighted the 30th-anniversary celebration of the TGR Foundation, founded by golf icon Tiger Woods, as the organization announced it raised $50 million in the last year for its education initiatives.

The gala, held Wednesday night at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida, came just two weeks after Woods turned 50. The event, titled “RED: Celebrating Legacy” and sponsored by EY (formerly Ernst & Young), featured a performance by Jon Bon Jovi and underscored the foundation’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities for underserved students.

A Legacy Beyond the Fairway

For Woods, the evening served as a powerful reminder of a legacy extending far beyond his celebrated golf career. “Tonight was a reminder that the legacy I’m most proud of isn’t on the golf course; it’s the work we’ve done to positively impact the lives of students through TGR Foundation,” Woods said in a statement. “I am excited for what’s next as we expand alongside our great supporters to reach more young people from communities in need.”

The foundation, initially established in 1996 when Woods turned professional and rebranded as the TGR Foundation a decade later, has grown from grassroots clinics to a network of learning centers. The announcement of a fifth TGR Learning Lab in Atlanta, fueled by a $20 million grant from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, represents a major step in that expansion.

Blank Champions Woods’ Vision

Blank, who also serves on the PGA Tour board and owns the Atlanta Drive team within the tech-focused TGL league co-founded by Woods, expressed deep admiration for the golfer’s commitment to education. “I have immense respect and admiration for Tiger, not only for his legendary career, but for the way he continues to lead with purpose off the course,” Blank stated. “It’s truly an honor to partner with someone who believes so deeply in the power of education and community.”

He added, “Seeing the impact of TGR Foundation, from the Learning Labs to the hundreds of thousands of students empowered through its programs, is incredibly inspiring and I look forward to seeing the impact the TGR Learning Lab Atlanta makes on our community.”

Expanding Educational Reach

The Atlanta learning lab joins existing and planned facilities in Anaheim, California; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Los Angeles, California; and Augusta, Georgia. The Augusta location is particularly noteworthy, as it is integrated into Augusta National’s revitalization of the municipal course known as “The Patch.” Since 2006, the TGR Foundation reports reaching over 3 million children and serving more than 217,000 students.

The foundation’s origins are deeply personal for Woods, stemming from a suggestion by his late mother, Kultida, who told him that red was his “power color.” He famously wore a red shirt on Sundays, coinciding with his 82 PGA Tour victories, including 15 major championships. Woods’ apparel company, Sun Day Red, launched two years ago, further embodies this symbolic connection.

Woods’ Continued Involvement

While focused on his philanthropic endeavors, Woods remains involved in the world of golf. He attended a TGL match featuring his Jupiter Links team on Tuesday night. However, he has not yet indicated a timeline for his return to competitive play following a ruptured Achilles’ tendon in March and a seventh back surgery in September 2024. He last competed in the 36-hole PNC Championship with his son, Charlie, in December 2024.

Beyond his playing career, Woods continues to dedicate time to shaping the future of the PGA Tour, serving on the boards of the tour and PGA Tour Enterprises, and chairing the Futures Competition Committee. The TGR Foundation’s continued growth, coupled with Woods’ ongoing involvement in both golf and philanthropy, underscores a commitment to impact that extends far beyond the boundaries of the sport.
