Deri spoke about Zohar’s significant contribution to the development of the Shas party: When Shas was formed, I brought him to do the broadcasts. “In fact, he was the one who branded Shas, the phrase ‘return the crown to its former glory,’ and all these things that became nostalgia – it’s Rabbi Uri Zohar. We became friends in heart and soul, and we learned friendship for many, many years.”
“Rabbi Uri Zohar for me – first of all as a friend, I will never forget what he did when I was in Maasiyahu. He did not want to leave the place and opened the ‘Roaring Lion’ yeshiva there,” the former minister said of his gratitude to the late Zohar .

Deri was also asked about the involvement of the late Zohar in the Shas party, even though he is not a member of the Mizrahi community: “I felt with Rabbi Uri Zohar like a twin Siam. He was a man of truth. He did not have these things.”
